| Abstract | A Zona de Convergência do Atlântico Sul (ZCAS), fenômeno tão presente nos meses do verão brasileiro, não se mostrou ativa ao longo do mês de Janeiro de 2010 apesar dos recordes de precipitação na região Sudeste do Brasil , sobretudo no estado de São Paulo. Foi analisada então a climatologia para 23 Janeiros (1989-2011) em comparação aos campos médios do Janeiro de 2010 de diversos parâmetros meteorológicos em baixos, médios e altos níveis, com a finalidade de identificar os mecanismos que contribuíram para essa quebra no padrão climatológico do verão, não favorecendo a formação e persistência de episódios de ZCAS. Pode-se concluir que o escoamento em baixos níveis orientado N-S e o deslocamento de cavados na troposfera média desfavoreceram a persistência característica do fenômeno de ZCAS ao longo de Janeiro de 2010, canalizando toda a umidade proveniente da região tropical para a região Sul do Brasil. ABSTRACT The South Atlantic Convergence Zone (SACZ), characteristic phenomenon of summer months in Brazil, was not active throughout the month of January 2010 despite record rainfall in the southeastern region of Brazil, especially in São Paulo. A climatology of 23 Januaries (1989-2011) was analyzed in comparison with the average fields in January 2010 of several meteorological parameters at low, medium and high levels, in order to identify the mechanisms that contributed to this break in the pattern of the climatological summer that did not support the formation and persistence of episodes of SACZ. It can be concluded that the flow at low levels orientated to North and the displacement of troughs in the middle troposphere worked against the persistence of the phenomenon SACZ over January 2010, channeling all the moisture from the tropics to southern Brazil. | |||
